Melisa is the Executive Director of Babes. She oversees case management, programme development, fundraising, stakeholder management and engagement. Melisa has a Bachelor’s in Social Work from NUS and is a Registered Social Worker with the Singapore Social Work Association. Her volunteer stint at Central Singapore Community Development Council inspired her to take on Social Work. After graduation, she started out as a Medical Social Worker before moving on to Community Development work developing programmes for the community in areas of arts, environment, seniors, children and family. She also had the opportunity to work with various stakeholders – corporate, grassroots, government agencies, schools and volunteers etc.
When developing an English literacy programme for the underprivileged children, she found it deeply rewarding and this drove her to continue her work in the area of children and family with single parents and teenage pregnancy. She hopes to empower families through access to information to enable them to make better informed decisions. She believes that every small action can make a big difference and with the support of the community, every family can achieve their goals.
