David Gunnell FFPH DSc FMedSci is Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Bristol (UK) School of Population Health Sciences. His research is focused on national and international approaches for preventing suicide and improving mental health.
He is a member of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy Advisory Group for England and contributed to WHO’s 2014 Preventing Suicide Report. In 2020 he helped establish the International COVID-19 Suicide Prevention Research Collaboration. He has received research prizes from IASP (Stengel Research award 2015) and AFSP’s (Research Award, 2015). Areas of current research include: the mental health and risk of suicide of young people (including students); the impact of COVID-19 on population mental health and suicide; the global burden of pesticide suicide. He leads the Mental Health theme in Bristol’s a NIHR-funded Biomedical Research Centre
