Head of Core Services, Samaritans of Singapore
Charlene Heng (Ms), has been practicing social work for more than 16 years. She majored in Social Work (BA with Hons) and also attained her Masters in Social Work from the National University of Singapore. Charlene has attained Crisis Worker Certification by American Association of Suicidology (AAS) and also Specialist Certification by Grief Recovery Methods Institution (GRMI). Charlene also an Associate Adult Educator with various Academic Institutions and has attained Advance Certification in Training and Assessment.
Currently, Charlene oversees the Core Services Division of the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS). The Core Services Division provides crisis support to clients who are at risk of suicide through the 24-hour Hotline, Crisis Text Messaging, Email, Support Group and Counselling services. Charlene also oversees Training department which provides external training on suicide prevention and intervention for professionals and community gatekeepers, as well as internal training for volunteers.
Prior to the work in SOS, she has worked with young people in school based setting, inmates in rehabilitation, and with low income families through innovative debts matching and asset building programmes.
