Ang Bee Lian
Director-General of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore
Ms Ang Bee Lian has more than 35 years of experience in social services, in areas such as policy making, programme design and service operations. Ms Ang currently serves as the Director-General of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social and Family Development. Trained as a social worker, Ms Ang has a Masters in Social Policy & Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Ms Ang has played a significant role in developing and implementing policies and programmes key to the growth of Singapore’s social sector and has brought statutory social work services to a higher level of professionalism. She is widely known as a teacher, mentor and trainer for social work and social services in Singapore. In recognition of her contributions to the social sector, Ms Ang was awarded the Outstanding Social Worker Award in 2000, the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2002 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2018. Ms Ang has penned three books that share her in-depth perspectives and experience on social work and the social service sector. Her latest publication was published this year, titled “Social Insights: Letters by DGSW – Vol 3”.
